Pulp play Razzmatazz - 3/12/01
After a one minute silence
in memory of George Harrison, Jarvis came on looking pale and worse
for wear and although I'd been warned about the place in advance, he
was complaining about the sound system to the engineers and roadies
from the first song; problems plagued the band throughout their set.
Last time I saw the band (two years ago in Wembley), Pulp had taken
a few songs to get into the music and make it come alive, and last night
they had the same problem. The music sparkled when they played their
old songs, but the ones from the new album "We love life"
either missed that sparkle or were handicapped by the sound system.
However, the fans liked it and sang along to many of the classics, although
I'm sure that they were as sorry as we were that they didn't play "Common
people".
In the end Razzmatazz didn't do Pulp justice and they did the best they could in the circumstances - a rather mixed night.
