Once
a small fishing village on the Costa Brava, Lloret de Mar is nowadays
a major summer holiday destination.
As
well as 7km of main beaches stretching 7km along the coast, Lloret de
Mar also has plenty of small coves which are worth exploring and for
those interested in watersports, the main beach offers a variety of options.
Overlooking
the beach are the ruins of the castle of Santa Caleta. From the castle
you can walk along the clifftops and admire the rugged coastline that
the Costa Brava is famous for. Other points of interest are the town's
look-out posts, the Santa Cristina hermitage and the 16th century church
of Sant Roma.
Where
to stay
As
well as hotels designed for package tours, hotels such as the Vila
de Mar are based in the quieter old town. Also, many private villas
and apartments are available to rent.
