Although
a popular airport in the summer, Girona airport has been underused for
the rest of the year until recently.
Girona
airport's traditional use has been to serve charter flights in the summer.
However, budget airline Ryanair
now has scheduled flights from Stansted, Liverpool, Glasgow Prestwick,
Birmingham and Bournemouth, as well as Dublin in Eire.
Once at the
airport you will need transport to reach your destination. At present
there is no regular bus service, although RyanAir runs a bus to
Girona bus station and to Plaça Sant Joan in Barcelona for
its own passengers, departing 40 minutes after a flight has landed.
Taxis are
usually available at the airport for the 12 km journey to Girona, or
you can pre-book a taxi for the coast. From Girona station you can reach
Barcelona within 90 minutes, but train services finish early compared
with the UK.
If
you are flying out of Girona and leave your car at the airport, save
yourself the trouble of finding a space in one of the free carparks -
for just €6 per day you can park just 5 minutes walk from the terminal
and there is plenty of space.

Many
people choose to fly to Barcelona airport, picking up a hire car or taking
the train for the remainder of the journey; Girona is only 90 minutes
north of Barcelona-Sants station on the cheap and efficient Spanish
railway.
